Early diagnosis of prostate cancer should serve as a harbinger cardiovascular occurrence, say the researchers.
Whether patients with prostate cancer treated in accordance with expected or that the definitive treatment, the possibility they died not because the causes of prostate cancer, because of suffering cardiovascular, Freedland said Stephen, MD assistant professor of urology and pathology at Duke.
"When people hear they have cancer, the concentration and energy focused on cancers. But, he added, only 32 of the 179 men who actually died of prostate cancer. Another 138 people died due to other reasons - and usually suffer from cardiovascular disease.
"The death is not due to prostate cancer but the biggest threat to health," said Dr. Freedland. "While the threat of prostate cancer can worsen quality of life, particularly sexual function, dietary and lifestyle interventions can actually improve the overall quality of life, and proven to improve erectile function."
"It is said that diet and lifestyle intervention was able to reduce risk of heart disease, the therapy is for men who suffer from low-risk disease appear to provide greater impact in improving survival compared with treatment related to prostate cancer," he said.
He recorded many patients when they say they suffer from prostate cancer, but it has been doing treatments that turned out not as expected. "By making dietary and lifestyle modifications as part of their treatment, patients will have an active role in improving their health," said Dr. Freedland. He also said there are studies that show a decrease in body weight, exercise and diet changes can improve conditions for suffering from cancer disease itself.
"There's no way change will worsen during cancer, and there would be a better opportunity," he said.
He said that he tells his patients who have chosen treatment is expected - and even those who perform preventive maintenance, they do lose weight, reduce saturated fat, reduce the entry of carbohydrates, lots of exercise and stop smoking.
"People diagnosed with prostate cancer should be working to improve their cardiovascular health because many people suffer from prostate cancer will die because of heart attack and stroke than from cancer themselves," noted Capt.E.Melissa Kaime, MD, of the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, and deputy director of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs.
