Can Prostate Cancer Be Prevented?

healthy man

There are no specific actions that are known to prevent the development of prostate cancer. At this time, therefore, we can only hope for preventing progression of cancer by making a diagnosis, early diagnosis and then try to cure disease. Diagnosis, early diagnosis can be made by screening men for prostate cancer. Screening performed, as mentioned earlier, with rectal examinations with the finger on a regular basis every year starting at age 40 years and an additional of an annual PSA tests beginning at age 50 years. The purpose of screening is to detect the cancers early, small, or even limited microscopic the prostate gland. Early treatment of these hazards (cancers) can dismiss the growth, prevent the spread, and possibly cure cancer.

Based on several studies in animals and humans, certain dietary measures have been recommended for preventing progression of prostate cancer. For example, low-fat diets, especially to avoid red meats, have been suggested because they are expected to slow the growth of prostate tumors in a way that is still unknown. Soya bean products, which work by reducing the amount of testosterone circulating in the blood, also reported to inhibit the growth of prostate tumors. Finally, other studies show that tomato products (lycopenes), the mineral selenium, and vitamin E may slow the growth of prostate tumors in a way that is poorly understood.
