5 ways to reduce prostate cancer risk

Prostate cancer is the number one killer for men. The National Cancer Institute estimates that 186.320 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008 and 28.660 will die from prostate cancer.

Although prostate cancer is one of the most widely cancers suffered by men, there are several ways to minimize the risk of contracting the disease, said Dr. Ihor Sawczuk, chairman of urology and chief of urologic oncology at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey.

The following five steps:

1.
Perform inspections. All men aged 50 years and older should be checked for prostate cancer every yea.
There are two types of examination for prostate cancer: The prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and digital rectal exam.
Type the first examination to measure blood levels of PSA preformance. PSA is a chemical mainly produced by the prostate. Too much PSA in the blood can indicate prostate cancer. However, high levels of PSA may also be indicated as infection, inflammation or an enlarged prostate.
The second type of examination involves the doctor and nurses who oiling and gloved finger into the rectum to examine whether the swollen prostate and other things that are not normal.
If a second examination shows results that worry, the doctor may be following up with a prostate biopsy. Prostate biopsy is the most accurate way to check for cancer. However, the result is uncertain and could result due to urinary tract infections.

Reduce the fat in the body. Excess weight and keep saturated fat diet, such as processed meat and red meat is a risk factor for prostate cancer.
Fat diet was found to increase testosterone production, where the increased risk of prostate cancer. The study also found that men consuming pairs of red meat five times a week for at least a potential 2.5 percent of prostate cancer compared with men eating red meat least once a week.

Consumption of different types of healthy foods. There has been also a promising research, which showing pomegranate fruit, soybeans and high food lycopene tomato sauce, reduce the risk of prostate cancer affected. He added that maintain healthy diet is one way the best for man to reduce the risk of affected prostate cancer.
