Journal Annals of Oncology states that men with high cholesterol levels, especially if it has been known before the age of 50 years, have a tendency to risk of prostate cancer. The link between prostate cancer and high cholesterol has been tested on 2750 men.
Researchers from the Istituto Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri, Milan, argued about the possibility of a relationship between high cholesterol and prostate cancer. Based on this research, they claim that men who suffer from prostate cancer have a higher cholesterol level of 50% compared with men without prostate cancer.
[Prostate Cancer] Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancer in men. Each year, 543 000 new cases were reported worldwide and elderly men killed 200 000 in some developing countries.
The researchers say that such relationships tend to occur in men with high cholesterol levels and had been diagnosed before age 50 years than those who are diagnosed at more than 65 years of age. The rate is about 80%. In addition, patients with prostate cancer in the study predicted 26% more likely to be affected by kidney stones that are often associated with high levels of cholesterol.
Please note that the hormone androgen, which plays a role in prostate tissue and cancer, are synthesized from cholesterol. Gallstones are also formed from cholesterol. So, it proved an association between gallstones and prostate cancer. Source: Journal Annals of Oncology
